For many of you hardened motocross and enduro riders, the thought of getting the same adrenaline rush that comes with racing from a bike without an engine may seem like a departure from reality. For newly-crowned 2011 Downhill Mountain Bike World Champion Danny Hart though, the speed he can wring out of his mountain bike defies belief and, thanks to his love of motocross, he and his factory team, complete with race bikes, will be at the International Dirt Bike Show this November. Show organisers Dave and Joanne Watson have just returned from Champery in Switzerland, where they saw 19-year-old Danny lift the title.
"We're always on the lookout for different elements to bring to the Dirt Bike Show, whilst still retaining a common core theme of off-road riding. Danny and his dad have been regulars at motocross meetings and Danny credits motocross as one of his favourite hobbies. Preston Docks is his preferred motocross track and his training schedule includes mostly motocross, and he rides whenever he has any spare time. So, we believe there is a pretty close synergy between mountain biking and motocross and, of course, the flipside is that many top-level crossers use mountain bikes for their own training.
"The final run for the World Championship last weekend was muddy and wet, which was perfect for the UK-trained mountain bike competitors. Danny won the event by a full eleven seconds over his nearest competitor and achieved a top speed of an astonishing 40kph.
"Danny and his team will be exhibiting throughout the four-day show at Stoneleigh and, for anyone who wants to hear about his exploits, we expect him to be hauled up onto the stage for an interview by popular biking commentator and off-road enthusiast Jack Burnicle.
"There's something for everyone at this year's show, and a cross-over into many disciplines with Fast Eddy and adult sprint enduro racing taking place on Saturday and Sunday, trials taster sessions, kids' quads, classic displays and the weekend EvoShock Moto Jumble, Danny Butler and his Extreme Mountain Bike Show and from the world of British and World Superbikes, Chris 'The Stalker' Walker will unveil his plans to revitalise the Gonerby Moor motocross track.
"We expect to have some major announcements to make over the coming weeks, so watch this space.
