1 - 4 NOVEMBER STONELEIGH PARK

GARETH HOCKEY BLOG

Well we're a week away from the start of the event and it's all systems go on the seafront. We're looking forward to another great event and if the weather can stay like it is now, then it's going to be even more fantastic!

I'm pleased to say we have the backing of some great partners again this year, and we're very grateful to them. Doodson Motorsport is a long-term partner and is supporting our event; Molson has supplied us with the best machinery in the business to put the track together; Plantforce has helped us out again, as has Ice Valley Water. I'm also pleased to announce we now have Rhino Goo on board, providing prizes in all classes as well as a bottle of its cleaning product for every race entrant.

Obviously the big news has been that Monster Energy is joining forces with us this year. Not only is it bringing an event rig that our race goers can enjoy, the company has been supporting us in getting the race to new audiences, which is so important to help grow the sport. I'm really looking forward to working with Monster at the event.

Anyway, I've been down the beach all this week and it's a nice feeling to be putting the event together - this is the fun bit for me! We've had masses of people down watching the course being built, which has been really nice to see and I'm praying this sunshine continues onto the event weekend. We're already ahead of schedule, and one of the important things is that North Somerset Council along with the local authorities are pleased and happy with the safe working practices being instigated by RHL's professional management team.

My job this week is basically walking around advising the course builders and on-site staff, and pulling everything together. The pedestrian bridge is built three days ahead of schedule, as is the VIP and press room. It's all coming together really smoothly and we're flat-out putting together a very interesting, technical, demanding but fun course.

Next week we're holding the press day on Tuesday, which will give people the chance to see how the track is taking shape and tour the facilities. We plan to have a few local riders down for this too. On Wednesday and Thursday we've invited local schools and colleges to get involved in the event, so they can learn about the sport, the beach race and everything that goes into it. I'm looking forward to this, as it's important we help to educate youngsters about the sport and the industry as a whole. Also Bikers FM will broadcasting live from Weston on Wednesday night 8pm until 10pm, so make sure you don't miss that!

Then it's beach race time. We've got all the usual classes, but this year the 85cc and 125cc classes will be split. We've also got Steve Colley coming down for some Extreme Trials demonstrations and of course Monster Energy will be entertaining everyone over the weekend.

We're keeping the website well up-to-date with everything - so keep checking back www.wbruk.com

Don't forget to enter the COMPETITION here on the International Dirt Bike Show website. We're giving away a pair of tickets for Saturday and Sunday.

Once the beach race is done and dusted, we'll be heading to Stoneleigh Park for this year's Show.

Best wishes
Gareth
